RX8 Podium Finish at the Portuguese 1/8 National Championship R3

Round 3 of the Portuguese 1/8 National Championship was held the weekend of June 11/12 in Sintra near Lisbon. Practice runs were held Saturday, with all pilots trying to find the best set-up for the track. By the end of the day, XRAY pilot José Pequito found a set-up for his RX8 that provided the best performance.

On Sunday the day started with qualifying rounds. As the day progressed, all the pilots started to improve their times. As in the previous round the top contenders were CRP/XRAY pilot José Pequito and the Mugen pilot Bruno Coelho. By the end of the four qualifying rounds, José Pequito was the top qualifier.

Sunday afternoon was reserved for the finals. As expected, both semi-finals were dominated by the top contenders. Semi-final âśAâť was won by CRP/XRAY driver JosĂ© Pequito with a 1 lap advantage over the second place driver. This win allowed the RX8 to be the top qualifier for this race. The final was expected to be very competitive. Our initial tyre choice â“ a hard compound â“ proved to be not the best selection for the track and we were forced to make a tyre change 15 minutes before the finish; we lost several places. However, with the new tyre â“ a compound more suitable for the track â“ we were able to reclaim the lost positions. The last 5 minutes of the final were very exciting to watch as the RX8 battled to recover the lost place.
